LINCOLN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An accident involving an 18-wheeler shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 in Lincoln County Friday afternoon. That section of the interstate is expected to reopen early Saturday morning.

It happened around 3:00 between the Lake Dixie Springs and Bogue Chitto exits. The 18-wheeler ran off the interstate and landed on its side.

Officials with the Mississippi Highway Patrol say an SUV quickly merged in front of the truck where the highway narrows to one lane for construction. The truck then hit the SUV.

The driver of the truck, Joseph Condello of Florida, was taken to a hospital. His injuries were described as not life-threatening.

Charles Armstrong was driving the SUV. He was not seriously injured.
