Two people suffered extensive injuries when a car left Interstate 20 and crashed into a tree in Rankin county.
Police and rescue units responded to the scene after three o'clock Saturday on I-20 near the Crossgates Boulevard Exit.
Pearl Police Lt. Butch Townsend said two people were inside a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr when it struck a tree along the wood line.
According to Townsend, a woman was in extremely critical condition while a man was in critical condition at University Medical Center following the crash.
Their names have not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
