A Jackson police officer was shot on Cox Street Monday night, while serving a Capital Murder arrest warrant. Detective Kennarios Kirk was wounded in the shoulder. His injuries are not life-threatening.
Jackson Police Chief Rebecca Coleman says Kirk, and other officers, were serving a warrant on Amad Williams. When officers approached him, he turned and fired one shot, hitting Kirk in the shoulder.
Coleman says Kirk was wearing a vest, but was hit in the upper shoulder in an area the vest didn't cover.
She says Kirk, who has been with the department four years, was conscious and talking.
A Capital Murder warrant was issued for Williams in connection with a murder on Utah Street in March.
