JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The atmosphere is primed for another long severe weather outbreak. Winds will continue to gust tonight as the cold front gets closer to the state. Areas north of I-20 have the greatest risk of experiencing severe weather overnight and into Wednesday.

This same area could also receive 3"-6" of rain. All modes of severe weather are possible including strong, long track tornadoes, large hail to the size of baseballs and damaging winds.

Areas along and south of I-20 have an isolated risk, but could still experience severe weather including tornadoes, large hail and damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour.

There is no specific time for this to occur, but a very large window of opportunity this evening through Wednesday afternoon.

The southeastern portion of the state may not experience these storms until midday Wednesday. The worst of the weather will exit the region Wednesday night.

Please invest in a weather radio for your safety and the safety of your family! The Midland Weather Radio can be purchased at area Cowboy Maloney, Walgreens and Kroger.

These radios will alert you to severe weather even when you lose electricity, Internet connection or satellite reception. Stay tuned to WLBT for the latest changes to this forecast.
