A Jackson man accused of shooting a Jackson police officer in 2011 has been sentenced on a possession of a firearm by a convicted felon charge.

Ahmad Williams, 29, was sentenced to 97 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release.

On April 25, 2011, Jackson police officers tried to arrest Willams on a capital murder warrant related to a March 15, 2011, homicide on Utah Street in Jackson.

Williams allegedly shot Detective Kennarious Kirk with a .45-caliber pistol. Kirk was shot in shoulder just above his bullet proof vest.
