RAYMOND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Severe thunderstorms shutdown the small town of Raymond Wednesday.

The area was slammed by extremely high winds.

Massive oak trees were uprooted.

The storms moved in overnight and left widespread power outages and fallen trees.

Debbie Sahler had extensive damage in her yard and on the grounds of the United Methodist Church in Raymond.

"There was a lot of strong wind. A lot of rain," Sahler said. "Heard things falling on the roof and got up and checked outside. It looked like straight line winds."

"The flag pole in front of the Hinds County Courthouse toppled over," said Jack Moss, Raymond lawyer. "All of the businesses and a number of homes in Raymond are without power."

Utility crews moved in quickly to restore power to thousands of residents affected as well as those on the campus of Hinds Community College.

No injuries were reported.
