RIDGELAND, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

An 18 wheeler took a detour onto a Ridgeland street, tearing down power lines that set a backhoe on fire.

Ridgeland Police Lt. John Neal said the unidentified driver of the tractor trailer was following a detour route to avoid nearby construction when the accident happened.

Around 12:30 p.m. Saturday it became entangled in power lines near the intersection of Goodridge Drive and Ridgewood Road.

Residents in the area reported hearing an explosion.

Neal said the truck took down four utility poles.

A live wire torched the empty excavator that was parked on the closed street.

No injuries have been reported.

Entergy expected that just over 100 customers will be without power in the area until 11 p.m. Saturday.
