Prayer vigil held in recognition of May Day

PEARL, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A prayer rally was held in Pearl Sunday in recognition of May Day.

Members of the Mississippi Immigrants Rights Alliance held hands and prayed during a vigil in front of Pearl City Hall.

It is a part of international workers day events held in over 40 communities across the country.

Participants prayed for the rights of workers and immigrants and their ability to organize and have bargaining rights say they planned a march from St. Jude Catholic Church, but were denied a permit by the city to do so.
