Vicksburg preparing for flood

Vicksburg city officials are informing residents about ways to prepare for the upcoming flood. The latest prediction from the National Weather Service is a record crest of 57.5 feet on May 18th.

Waters are rising at up to 2 feet a day, and is expected to hold at crest level for over ten days. Nearly 600 people are expected to be impacted.

Vicksburg ports and manufacturing companies near the river are also expected to flood, impacting nearly 4,000 workers.

Residents are being reminded to secure items on their property, and have a evacuation plan ready.

Roads are already covered in neighborhoods north on Highway 61. Motorists are being urged not to drive on the water covered roads.
