WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Law enforcement officers in Vicksburg and Warren County are conducting separate homicide investigations.

One man was killed in Vicksburg while a woman was found dead in her home in the county.

Gunfire ran out Sunday night at the Confederate Ridge Apartments on Highway 61.

Vicksburg Police said Patrick Tucker, 23, and Jermaine Wright, 25, were leaving an apartment when they were approached by two men in the parking lot carrying shotguns and wearing masks.

Wright, who lives at the complex, told police the men demanded money then opened fire.

Investigators said Wright returned fire striking Corey Thompson, 25, and 18 year old Maurice Morris.

"Thompson was shot in the abdomen. He left the scene and drove himself to River Region Hospital," Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong said. "Maurice Morris managed to run away after he was shot. Both of the suspects had on masks."

The police chief said Thompson will be charged with murder and attempted robbery after he is released from the hospital.

Morris was found the Monday morning dead of a single gunshot wound to the chest.

His body was located near a wooded area at the complex.

"Still wearing his mask," Armstrong said. "Jermaine Wright did not know he struck either of the two."

Ten miles outside the Vicksburg city limits, the Warren County Sheriff's Department is investigating the murder of 32 year old Alicia Michelle Vega.

Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey said Vega died of a single gunshot wound to the head.

Her body was found in the kitchen area of a mobile home on Jones Road.

WLBT has learned that Vega's 2002 tan Dodge Durango is missing, and authorities are searching for her 14 year old stepdaughter for questioning in connection with this homicide case.
