Red Cross Operation Center sending relief throughout Mississippi

Posted: Updated:
CLINTON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

WLBT's "Hands of Hope" telethon allowed viewers to help Mississippians rebuild their lives  after devastating storms in 40 areas of the state.

The American Red Cross set up an Operations Center in Clinton where volunteers were in communication with disaster response teams dispatched throughout the state.

As forecasters monitor the rising Mississippi River, volunteers are now gearing up to provide assistance to flood victims.

Workers on the ground in disaster areas are telling their colleagues in the Operation Center what is specifically needed, where emergency response teams, feeding canteens and supply trucks should go.

Red Cross volunteers began manning phone lines in the WLBT studios at 5:00 Wednesday morning.

Officials say any donation is greatly appreciated and goes a long way to assisting families right here in the Magnolia State.
