National women build week

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Women are leading the way on Habitat for Humanity construction sites across the country. This week marks "National Women Build Week."

The week is dedicated to encouraging women to feel confident about building homes. Over the next few weeks, volunteers in Jackson are working on Willie Mae and Leanel Smith's home. The couple currently lives with their son and they've never owned a home of their own before.

On Thursday, the Smiths' future home was blessed and volunteers signed the frames of the home with encouraging messages.

Willie Mae Smith says, "I don't even know how to express it, it's so wonderful you don't even know, there's so many people who want to help, it's really wonderful and I thank God above for it all I really do."

In addition to celebrating their new home, the Smiths will celebrate fifty years of marriage this year.
