Businesses are shutting down to prepare for 2011 flood

Posted: Updated:

Businesses are shutting down in preparation for the rising water.

International Paper's Vicksburg Mill on Highway 3 near Redwood closed its doors Sunday.

The business will remain shuttered until waters recede. Wednesday North-South Rail Service to the plant was suspended.

A statement from the company said most of the mill's 296 employees will be laid off, and a "minimal skeleton crew" will work to secure the plant. Meanwhile Diamond Jacks Casino is expected to close at 3:00 Monday morning.

Last week we showed how the casino had raised its barge to prepare for the flood. After the crest was raised to 57 and a half feet on May 20th,  it changed Diamond Jacks' plans.

Diamond Jacks Casino is expected to close at 3 a.m. Monday.
