John Scroggins is trying to save his home from flooding. The 79-year-old former U. S. Army Corps of Engineers employee is building a 5.5-foot levee around his home.

Scroggins lives at 313 Magnolia Road, about three miles from downtown Vicksburg. He says that according to his calculations, he'll have 6-inches of free board above the water level.

Foam Packaging, Inc., is putting sandbags around its business, in hopes of staying open. They supply egg cartons to customers in 26 states. Their biggest customer is Cal-Maine Foods of Jackson.

If the sandbags are successful, it'll keep their 137 employees working.

Foam Packaging is located on Highway 61, about three miles from Interstate 20.
