More Vicksburg homes flooded

Posted: Updated:

More residents are being forced from their homes by floodwaters in Vicksburg. Vicksburg police say 16 homes are now flooded and 240 families have been forced from their homes due to the flood threat.

In the Ford subdivision, water has started entering homes, and several streets are closed.

Tony Wardley now has to travel down train tracks, and across a series of boards to enter his home.

"It's a hardship to cook, clean, do anything" said Wardley.

No mandatory evacuations have been announced just yet, but residents are being urged not to return to their homes until the floodwaters recede.

City officials say their resources are limited, and they don't have a boat to use for rescues.

Vicksburg Police Chief Walter Armstrong says, "The police department as well as the Sheriffs Department is doing all they can but if we have to use those resources to go rescue people that puts our lives and as well as first responders in danger."

Sixteen roads are closed in the Vicksburg city limits.
