There was a somber occasion outside the Gartin Justice building in downtown Jackson this afternoon.
Since the 1800's, 212 law enforcement officers have lost their lives in the line of duty, statewide.
Family, friends and fellow lawmen honored them with the Mississippi Law Enforcement Memorial; engraved with all of their names.
After Governor Haley Barbour placed a wreath, there was a 21-gun salute followed by taps.
Barbour said, "Lest we forget...we have this as a reminder."
Some of the family members were overcome with emotion. Three of the fallen lawmen were federal officers.
