You can get some one-on-one help applying for federal money if you've been impacted by the recent severe weather and flooding.
Officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and Small Business Administration want you to know about several disaster recovery centers across the state. The centers are set up with numerous staff members who can help severe weather and flood victims register for federal money through FEMA.
Now, when you submit your FEMA application, you also register for SBA disaster assistance which allows qualified individuals and businesses to apply for low interest loans.
Matt Young, a public affairs specialist with SBA Disaster Assistance says, "We can help homeowners with up to $200,000 for repairing the structure, we can help homeowners and renters with up to $40,000 for personal property, such as furniture, clothing automobiles, those types of things and then businesses can borrow up to $2 million."
If you'd prefer to apply for assistance online or would like more information on disaster recovery centers in your area, go to www.disasterassistance.gov or call 1-800-621-FEMA. That toll free number is available from 7am to 10pm, seven days a week.
The disaster recovery centers are open 7am to 7pm through May 15, 2011. Starting May 16, the centers will be open Monday through Saturday - 9am to 7pm.
