Flooding forces closure of Highway 61

U.S. Highway 61 north of Vicksburg was closed to traffic just before 1:00 Friday afternoon. The entrance to Highway 3 in that same area was also closed.

No traffic is being allowed north of two "ROAD CLOSED" signs at an area called The Flats, nine miles north of Vicksburg.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol tells WLBT News their orders are to allow no one past the signs except emergency vehicles.

The road will remain closed until the water recedes.
