Jackson Zoo Fundraiser

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Supporters of the Jackson Zoo turned up their pints Friday night for an annual fundraiser. The 4th Annual Zoo Brew featured over 40 specialty beers.

It was called the wildest party in town. Supporters lined up to listen to music, taste beer and margaritas and chicken wings from the wing cook off competition. This is the kick off of the summer season for the zoo. Organizers were hoping at least 200 people would attend the fund raiser. Money from the event will be used to support activities at the zoo.

"The Jackson Zoo is a non-profit and really when you come in the front gates that only pays for about a third of the zoo budget, so another third comes from governmental and corporate support, the other third is fund raisers like our zoo brew", said Beth Poff, Executive Director of the Jackson Zoo.

Organizers tell us weather has been a factor in the past 3 years, keeping attendance down. This year they believe the event will break the record, and raise ten thousand dollars to support the Jackson Zoo.
