17 of 19 Miss. River casinos closed due to Great Flood of 2011

Posted: Updated:

17 of the 19 casinos that sit along the Mississippi River from Natchez to Tunica have had to lose.

There were only two left open, Ameristar and Riverwalk casinos in Vicksburg.

Both had taken precautions to keep water out.

Riverwalk built a sand wall around their building.

Water was the nearing the parking lot, but is expected to stay out.

Ameristar is operating as usual, but revenue is down for the floating boat.

"Business is probably off about 25% and it should be expected, but I think the message that Vicksburg is underwater is completely exaggerated," said Ameristar General Manager George Stadler. "Again, I think we're doing fine.  But business is staying about 25% below normal levels this time of year."

Riverwalk officials said business has remained steady.

Mississippi Gaming Commissions officials said Vicksburg stands to lose $700,000 in economic impact this month.
