The Mississippi river flowing through Vicksburg hit a record high of 56.9 feet today. But the crest of 57.5 feet isn't expected until Thursday.
Officials from the Army Corps of Engineers say the levee system is extremely strained with all of the water flowing through the river. So, employees from the Corps of Engineers are working around the clock bagging boils and seepage areas on the levees.
Lt. Col. Greg Rainmondo is the Deputy Commander at the Army Corps of Engineers Vicksburg Headquarters.
Lt. Col. Rainmondo says, "the whole system is under pressure right now, so I can't say we have one area of greatest concern, the guys are out there they find a boil bag it up and move on."
Officials from the Corps say, since this flooding began, about 2.1 million acres of have been flooded in parts of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
