JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A candle light vigil was held Tuesday night for officers, statewide, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Family members and representatives of the law enforcement community from across Mississippi gathered at the recently dedicated Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Memorial at the Gartin Building in downtown Jackson.

May 15 was National Law Enforcement Memorial Day and Attorney General Jim Hood told the Washington, D.C. gathering he will seek the death penalty for anyone who causes the death of a law officer in the line of duty.
