A special ceremony took place in front of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety headquarters.
Red roses were laid for 32 Mississippi Highway patrolmen who lost their lives while patrolling state highways and communities.
The family members of the fallen heroes had an opportunity to place the red roses in front of the "Mississippi Department of Public Safety Fallen Officer Memorial."
Lisa Hood's late husband, Master Sergeant Steve Hood, was the most recent state trooper to die in the line of duty in May of 2009.
Lisa says Wednesday's ceremony brought some comfort to her family's loss.
"It's very comforting that several of these here, although were the first in ten years to have died it is very comforting to know that others have been here in the same situation that we are and its also comforting to know that Steve loved his job and was a dedicated trooper and died doing what he loved," Hood said.
Governor Haley Barbour gave the keynote address during Wednesday's ceremony.
