Fallen wildlife officers memorial

The men and women who have been killed while patrolling the Magnolia State's parks, waters and wetlands were recognized Thursday morning. The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks honored officers that died in the line of duty in a ceremony at the department's headquarters in Jackson.

A special wreath was placed at the memorial in front of the headquarters. The memorial lists seven officers that had given their lives while serving Mississippi since 1948.

The MDWFP Law Enforcement Bureau Chief, Colonel Stephen Adcock, elaborated on the day-to-day dangers that his officers face.

"98 percent, 99 percent of the sportsmen that they encounter are wonderful people, but there is that small element that does create a danger for our officers and does put their lives at risk."

The annual ceremony was held in observation of National Police Week.
