Only boat access for some areas of Warren County

Posted: Updated:
WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Warren County Sheriffs Department continues to patrol flooded neighborhoods and businesses by boat.

Today sheriffs deputies took us down Le Tourneau Road by boat. The road has been closed to residents for more than two weeks now.

"One of the major concerns we have is electrical lines still activated at this time," says Detective Sam Winchester.

There are several homes here that are elevated over twelve feet high, and are still taking on water. Deputies say some homeowners may not come back.

Detective Mike Traxler says, "Some will come back, we've heard some will not come back they will relocate.  The community came together to give shelter, if they need it, a lot moved in with family and friends."

The homeowners are not being permitted in this area, even by boat, because the power lines are close to the water.

The Mississippi river is closed to recreational boat traffic during the flood due to the dangerous current, which is now moving at nearly 25 miles per hour.
