Handgun found at scene of hostage standoff

A search warrant turns up a handgun at a residence where a hostage situation took place Thursday night.

Jackson Police say Lewis Hawkins took an unidentified female hostage in the 600 block of Cherry Street.

Hawkins is now charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, domestic violence, kidnapping and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.

His initial appearance is scheduled for Monday, May 23rd.

The female involved was not injured.
