Fire destroys South Jackson home

Everyone is safe after a morning blaze ripped through a home in south Jackson. The 

Firefighters say the home located at 256 Baybury Lane was eighty to ninety percent engulfed by the time they arrived on the scene around 5:00 a.m. One man lived in the home, but he was not there when the fire started. Ladonna Smith, the girlfriend of the homeowner arrived on the scene around 7:30 a.m. Smith says she's thankful her boyfriend wasn't home this morning.

Smith says, "I'm glad he wasn't here, so I mean he's okay, it's a house, I mean it's a lot of things that need to be replaced, but he's strong he'll make it, he'll be fine."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Firefighters rescued three dogs in the backyard.
