Well, it's a simple message that can help save your life. Wear your seatbelt!
"Click It Or Ticket." That's a phrase state safety and highway officials want you to keep in mind every time you get into a vehicle.
The Mississippi Department of Public Safety is re-enforcing the "Click It Or Ticket" campaign to encourage everyone to buckle up.
Highway patrolmen say vehicle deaths have decreased since the state began enforcing the seatbelt law in 2006. However, too many Mississippians are still dying because they aren't strapped in.
Corporal Odis Easterling with the Mississippi Highway Patrol says, "There were 641 fatalities last year, 2010, and out of that 641 there were over 62% unbelted in those accidents."
The national average for seatbelt use is 85%. Mississippi's average is 80%.
