JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

It's a bit of a sad day for local music lovers. The Jackson record store BeBop is shutting its door after serving the community for decades.

BeBop customers take their last strolls and make their final purchases in the record store. The musical landmark in Jackson is shutting down after nearly 40 years in business.

BeBop co-owner Kathy Morrison says, "it's bitter sweet, but it's been a wonderful time to be in the music business and we've had the best of times and the coolest job in the world."

Many call Bebop a retro music store. You can find anything from old vinyl records to CD's and cassettes of all types of music. Customers can't believe the shop is closing up.

Customer William Campbell says, "I couldn't believe it you know because I come here to get a lot of music."

A change in times has played a significant role the shut down of  Bebop. According to Billboard Magazine, in 2010 CD sells dropped by 20% and then album sells dropped by 13%, on the other hand digital download albums increased by 13%.

Advancements in musical downloading on the Internet is part of the reason Bebop is shutting down, but finances play a big part too.

Morrison says, "we couldn't work out a deal for lower rent with the landlord and we couldn't find a smaller space to move too."

For many, the final day of Bebop isn't just a shopping experience, but a day of reflection.

Shopper Spence Fletcher says, "they were cutting edge, they supported the local bands and they were prominent and they tried to promote the musicians."

Ann Lampe has worked for Bebop for 35 years. Lampe says, "I just want to thank the community of Jackson for supporting us all these years, you know its been great the musical community here is wonderful and we appreciate them."
