More scorching temperatures this week

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Temperatures have been about five to eight degrees above normal for late May. More heat is on the way as we head into June.

The average high temperature for late May is in the mid 80s. I'm forecasting high temperatures this week to range from 91-95 degrees each afternoon. Nighttime lows will mainly be in the middle to upper 60s.

The overall weather pattern will severely limit our chances for much needed rain. Rainfall deficits across our area range from 6-14" for the year.

Starting Wednesday, and for each afternoon through the weekend, there is a slim 15% chance for a couple of storms during the late afternoon hours. If any storms form, they will be hit and miss. Given the pattern I'm forecasting, they would move from an easterly to westerly direction. This is a little unusual for this part of the world as our weather normally flows west to east.

If a couple of storms do manage to form, they would likely become severe with damaging straight-line winds and large hail possible.
