JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - As the temperatures eclipse 90 degrees, we all need to stay cool. But, we cannot forget our pets.
Community Animal Rescue and Adoption (C.A.R.A.) in Jackson houses hundreds of dogs and cats. They rotate spending time outside with wading pools in each outdoor kennel for the animals to cool off. Lots of fans are blowing inside the main kennel.
Staff members keep frozen water bottles for the animals to lay on when it gets too hot.
They say it is necessary to keep pets in cool air and keep them hydrated.
Lynn Shaw, the Kennel Manager for C.A.R.A., does not suggest letting your pet drink ice water.
"From the heat, it can put it into shock. Don't let it get tepid. If it does, change it. You don't want them to drink it warm."
It's also recommended that you keep pets at home when traveling. The reason why is because vehicles can heat up quickly if left inside.
