Some flooded highways reopen Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
WARREN COUNTY, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

MDOT officials have opened four highways, that have been closed in recent weeks due to flooding.

Highways 61, 3, 49W, and a small portion of 149 were opened before noon Wednesday.

MDOT says motorists should still use precaution when stopping on the shoulders, because many remain soft after being soaked by floodwaters.

There is still standing water next to the highways in many places, which could also cause problems should a motorist leave the road.

Recreational boating is still prohibited in all areas including flooded neighborhoods.

Authorities say boats could cause wakes causing more flood damage of homes.

Low hanging power lines also pose a threat.

The river current remains too strong for boats too.
