Another Round of Storms Expected

Posted: Updated:

Much needed showers finally arrived yesterday during the afternoon hours. Severe Storm Warning began in the Simpson county area in the afternoon hours and scattered showers reached into the Jackson Metro area.

Today the expectations are going to be close to the same, watching for spotty showers. A 50% chance of afternoon storms for today. Isolated areas may see brief stints of heavy showers, but the entire area won't see enough rain to be concerned about any flash flooding.

Highs will be in the mid 90s instead of the near 100 degree weather we've been dealing with in the last few weeks. Heat index may get to near 100, that's because of the abundance of moisture still hovering in our area.

The latest numbers along the Mississippi river is still looking favorable for recovering from the flood of 2011. The Greenville location is now at 51.4 feet. Steady fall at the Vicksburg site is indicating this morning the measurement dropped to 48.4 feet. And in Natchez the level has not dropped to 55.5 feet as of the 3am measurement by the National Weather Service.

The Yazoo basin is also responding well to the extended dry weather and despite recent rain its still dropping. In Yazoo City the level this morning is 31.4 feet as of the 4am measurements. In Belzoni the morning measurement is 24.4 feet.
