JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Republican gubernatorial candidate Phil Bryant says he has more than $1.7 million in the bank two months out from the Aug. 2 GOP primary.
Friday was the deadline for candidates to file a campaign finance report for the period of May 1-31, 2011. Candidates had until 5 p.m. CDT to file the reports with the secretary of state.
In a release, Bryant, the sitting lieutenant governor, says he raised $238,761 in May and has raised more than $2.6 million since Jan. 1.
Republican Gov. Haley Barbour is limited to two terms and could not run again this year.
