JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

Lee County's Deputy Coroner is out of a job and arrested on felony charges, accused of taking pain killers from a dead man.

Friday the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics charged Christopher Brian Patterson with three counts of fraud in acquisition of controlled substances.

MBN Director Marshall Fisher said he is suspected of taking undetermined quantities of morphine and hydrocodone from the home of Itawamba county resident Billy Foster DeVaughn.

Officials said the theft occurred after DeVaughn's death on February 24th.

Patterson's arrest is the result of a three month investigation by M.B.N., Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green, the Itawamba County Sheriff's Office and Lee County District Attorney's Office.

The former deputy coroner also worked for the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency.

Additional charges may be forthcoming.

MBN officials ask anyone who has had similar experiences to contact the agency at 662-348-5000.
