Storms Kill 2 & Winds Cause Widespread Damage

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The anticipation of another round of summer spot storms is now attached to a bit on anxiety, considering the damage yesterday's storms caused. Today we expect a high of 99 degrees and a 20% chance of showers. By tonight temps will fall into the lower 70s.

The "20%" chance of storms yesterday stayed true to form, with isolated t-storms popping around the state. However in Pinola there were some isolated storms that hit a trailer and unfortunately killed a baby and grandparent.

Various other areas reported storm damage from gusty winds from Monday afternoon and early evening storms. However, actual tornado touchdown were not reported as of Tuesday morning.

The Mississippi river continues to fall and now the Greenville site is no longer under a River Flood Warning. In Greenville the level has dropped to 46.4 feet. In Vicksburg the river level continues to prompt warnings; measured this morning at 45.1 feet. And in Natchez the River Warning is still active. The 4am measurement was 53.0 feet.

The Yazoo River in Yazoo City was measured at 28.1 feet this morning during the 6am survey. And in Belzoni, the level at 6am was reported to have dropped to 21.2 feet.
