Grand jury will hear case against principal

RAYVILLE, La. (AP) - Richland Parish District Attorney Mack Lancaster will take accusations against a Rayville principal to a grand jury to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.

Tony Guirlando, Rayville Junior High School principal, was accused in April of choking a special education student in his office.

Lancaster said Tuesday the investigation into the incident was conducted by Rayville police and referred to his office for consideration.

The News-Star reports the next regularly scheduled grand jury meets on Nov. 17-18.

Lancaster said the grand jury will hear from at least three witnesses and consider charges of simple battery. Guirlando has been on administrative leave with pay since the April incident.

Guirlando has called the accusations presented to the school board on behalf of Superintendent Cathy Stockton "lies."
