Second Arrest made in child neglect investigation

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

The Hinds County Sheriff's Department says 45 year old Eddie Crosby was in custody Wednesday night.

He turned himself in to authorities shortly after 3 PM. Eddie Crosby is charged with three counts of felony child neglect and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Investigators say he is the father of Lena Crosby.

The charges stem from a report of children found abandoned at 2845 Greenview Drive while Hinds County authorities attempted to serve an eviction notice.

24-year-old Lena Crosby remains in custody Wednesday night, charged with four counts of felony child neglect.

The sheriff's department says Lena Crosby left a 12-year-old alone to take care of a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old baby.

The conditions inside the house were awful, with sewage, human waste and roaches, but no food anywhere to be found.

Wednesday morning, the youngest child was still at UMC being treated for severe malnutrition.

The property owner, William Waltz, told WLBT Eddie Crosby worked for him cutting grass at his rental properties, and was staying in the home with the understanding he make improvements.

Waltz says Crosby stopped fixing up the place after three months, then failed to pay rent.

Lena Crosby is likely to make her initial appearance Thursday.

Eddie Crosby is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center. No bond has been set.

The seven year old child that was believed to have been missing from the residence has been located and turned over to the Department of Human Services.
