Another Summer Sizzle

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

We are expecting another summer sizzling day with temps climbing to the mid 90s. Anticipate the heat index to hit the near 100 degree mark!

Our chances of rain are barely going to reach into the 20% chances at best during the afternoon hours. Thus far we are more than 1 1/2 inches shy of the normal rainfall for this time of the year (in the month of June).

Dry conditions have devastated many Mississippi crops. Conversely the flood along the Mississippi river has hurt crops there on the opposite side of the spectrum.

Flood warnings remain in effect in Vicksburg and Natchez. The morning readings in Natchez was 51.9 feet; the flood stage is 48 feet. In Vicksburg the flood stage is only 43 feet. However the latest level of Mississippi river in Vicksburg is 43.7 feet.

The back water basin reports along the Yazoo river is also looking promising. In Yazoo City the level in the early morning hours was 26.9 feet. And in Belzoni the Yazoo River was at 20.3 feet and still falling.
