Vicksburg Falls Below Flood Stage As Heat Reaches Higher

Tons of Sun, High 99

Oppressive heat is expected for today as temps are expected to climb to 99 degrees. The heat index is expected to reach to 100 possibly as early as 11am Friday morning.

We have a slim chance of showers during the afternoon heating; that being on 20% chance of precipitation. We'll stay steamy all weekend long, especially tomorrow.

Saturday's heat will be 'off' the scale, expect a high of 100 degrees. The heat index may climb to near 110 before the day is done. By the time we get to the 95 degrees we expect on Sunday, that may feel like a 'cool' day; relatively speaking.

The Mississippi River is Vicksburg has finally fallen below flood stage as of this morning's stage report. The Mississippi River at Vicksburg is now at 42.8 feet; the flood stage is 43 feet.

The Mississippi River has already fallen below flood stage in Greenville earlier this month, now measuring at 43.2 feet. The flood stage of the MS river at Greenville is 48 feet, the same as it is in Natchez. And speaking of Natchez, the river remains above flood stage at that site. The Natchez readings this morning dropped to 51.4 feet, still well above flood stage.
