SACRAMENTO, CA (KCRA/CNN) - A California mother is accused of microwaving 6-week-old baby to death.
Police say Ka Yang, 29, claimed she had a seizure and dropped her newborn on a heater in March.
The baby suffered serious second-, third- and fourth-degree burns from head to toe.
A three-month investigation eventually led to an expert in Ohio who worked on a similar case.
"It's the pattern of the burns that you see in the case of a microwave that are different, than what you'd see with a child burned with boiled water, tipping a pot off the stove," said Russell Uttegrove, forensic pathologist.
Another doctor agreed, saying the burns were consistent with microwave burning.
"It's unique and it's rare, you don't have to have children for this to be something that is horrific," said Laura Peck, with the Sacramento Police Department.
Court documents say a pacifier left in the microwave was a key piece of evidence.
Yang is being held without bail.
