Painters file complaint against Jackson company

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A group of painters say they were not paid by the My Painters company, who contracted them for work completed at Jackson State.

Tony Reed says he and a co-worker painted several floors of a dorm on campus, and have yet to receive payment.

Reed says he filed a complaint with the Department of Labor, who told him they had 17 complaints against the company.

WLBT contacted My Painter owner Michael Perkins, who declined to go on camera.

Perkins said he was aware of the workers complaints, but has time sheets to prove them wrong.

He says the men were "screwing around on the job" and let go.

Perkins says he filed a complaint against them with wage and hour.

My Painter has been in good standing with the Secretary of State's office since 2005.

Late Wednesday, the painters called WLBT to say Perkins offered to pay them when he heard the story was airing.

They say they picked up their checks, but they were short.
