Homeowner interrupts burglary, exchanges gunfire

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

A south Jackson man returned to his home Wednesday and interrupted a burglary in progress, a group of teenagers broke into his house.

Within seconds he was exchanging gunfire with the would-be thieves.

"When I pulled up, my windows were opened, had a firearm in my car with me," said Bradley Foster outside his Alta Woods Avenue home.

Foster raced to his house around 4:15 p.m. after his aunt and next door neighbor called to tell him that his windows were raised.

She also heard noises inside.

The Jackson homeowner said he saw five young men were fleeing his home as he walked toward the back of the house.

"They came out my window. I chased them over the fence here, over the next fence," Foster said. "When I jumped that fence one of them shot at me. Three more went the other direction and he ran through the fence, and I lost them on Paden."

The 26 year old told police that he returned fire at the teenager dress in all black clothing holding the gun.

Jackson Police captured two suspects not far away near Belvedere Drive and Paden Street.

Foster was able to identify one of them.

While still investigating the scene, Officer Nichols of Precinct One saw two other teenagers fitting the description leave a yellow house on Paden Street.

The house can be seen from Foster's back yard.

Two were stopped and questioned.

Both denied involvement.

In the meantime, Metro One flew overhead searching for a fifth person.

While the teens were handcuffed Charlie Bacon brought a gun to officers.

Bacon told investigators that he found it in his cousin's Paden Street house.

Officers believe it belonged to the shooter.

"She called me and said somebody's in her house, and the police were chasing them," Bacon said.

Bacon said he received a frantic call from his female cousin telling him that some teenagers just entered her home.

"They came through the back window, and he was hiding under the bed. Who? One of those guys who yall are looking for. So I went up under there to look up under the bed and that gun was in there," Bacon added.

J.P.D. officers arrested 3 juveniles in connection with the house burglary, a 13 year old and two 14 year olds.

Jackson Police also found stolen items including one gun, two televisions and an X-Box at the home of 18 year old Michael Green.

Investigators said he was with the group who entered Foster's home.

Green is charged with house burglary and is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center.
