More efforts were underway this evening to help disaster victims affected by the Great Mississippi River Flood and recent tornados.
Phone banks were set up in the Mississippi Public Broadcasting Studios in Jackson for the Rise for Relief Telethon. The live fund raiser for the American Red Cross aired in Mississippi, Louisiana and Tennessee.
Laurel native, Tom Lester, who played EB on the television series "Green Acres" also manned the phone lines.
Red Cross officials estimate that $3 million dollars have been spent in response to five recent tornados and flooding.
"We've been on the ground providing clean kits, brooms, mops. We've also been there doing the feeding sites. We've provided food, because with electricity out there's no where to cook. We've also had medical resources on the ground as well," said Sandra Hodge, American Red Cross Executive Director.
WLBT's Howard Ballou, Maggie Wade and Walt Grayson took part in the event.
