JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A new affordable housing facility for the elderly was unveiled in South Jackson Sunday.  People With Visions or PWV hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for Lake Serenity View in the 1100 block of Cooper Road in Jackson.

PWV is a non-profit faith based community organization which was awarded a $2.2 million HUD grant to construct the multi-family affordable housing facility.  The new space is available for low income seniors ages 62 and older.

"Lake Serenity is a safe haven for the senior citizens.  We're trying to provide a place where the senior citizens would have no fear of what's going on around them," said Lake Serenity View CEO Jesse Horton.

"It gives people an opportunity to stay in what we would like to believe is upscale residential housing for those who have lived their lives into a golden age and are now just kind of ready to sit back and enjoy the rest of their days," said Ward 6 Jackson City Councilman Tony Yarber.

Five apartments were occupied.  15 others remain available.
