(WMC-TV) - A deputy jailer has been arrested on charges he sexually assaulted an inmate.
Sgt. Robert Bradshaw, 53, was arrested Monday on charges of Sexual Contact with an Inmate, Rape and Official Oppression.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office, investigators received a letter from an inmate at Jail East last week, which said she and other inmates noticed what seemed to be suspicious activity between Brandshaw and an inmate.
According to an affadivit of complaint, Bradshaw asaulted the inmate in a jail laundry room, touching her private area after he, "grabbed her by the waistband of her pants."
"Everyone has rights, and of course we always encourage anyone who sees something suspicious in nature to let the appropriate authorities know, and of course they will immediately look into it," Sheriff's Office spokesperson Chip Washington said.
Bradshaw, who has been employed by the Sheriff's Office for nearly 25 years, has been put on leave pending an investigation.
