More Heat In Store For MS...

Posted: Updated:

There's a constant mixture of cold and warm air to our north west that will keep the heat cranked up in Arkansas with advisories there. However here in Mississippi, we'll be hot, just not quite as bad.

Expect highs to climb to the mid to upper 90s for today, and the heat index to climb to 103 or above this afternoon. The moisture in the air will also help to create a spot shower or two during the late afternoon hours. The chances of rain will primary stay to the northern borders and coastal areas of the state.

Long term outlook is looking pretty consistent with our dry pattern staying in place. Even with the occasional afternoon shower, it still looks like we'll end the month of June on a rather 'drought' note. By month's end, we may fall more than 2 inches shy of our normal rainfall totals.

The chances of rain dwindle down to only a 10-20% chance going into the weekend. That low opportunity for showers is dependent on afternoon heating to trigger the event.
