Preparing for Miss Mississippi

Preliminary competition begins Wednesday night at the Miss Mississippi Pageant.  Among the contestants competing in talent, the First Alternate from last year, Jill Duckworth who is representing the University of Southern Mississippi, Jessica Terrill who made the Top 10 and is now Miss Mississippi State.

The contestants put aside the pressure and excitement of prelims to participate in the annual parade of contestants in Downtown Vicksburg Monday night. Duckworth will sing Wednesday night. She won a swimsuit preliminary in 2010.. Miss MSU will play piano.

"My favorite has to be interview because I feel like its such an important and key part of competition in gaining our new Miss Mississippi and really seeing what that particular woman is all about, and what she stands for and just really getting to know the judges and really get that face to face connection", said Terrill.

"Honestly coming into it, talent was really more of my forte. I've sung my whole life, I sing opera and so I'd worked really hard on my swimsuit and worked really hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle because Diabetes Education and Awareness is my platform", Duckworth said.

Also competing in talent Miss University, Katherine Barkett who is from Flowood, this is the last year she will compete at Miss Mississippi.
