Comcast converting to all digital

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) -

If you live in the Jackson metro area and you are a Comcast customer, change is on the way. On July 13, the cable company will convert to a digital-only format.

You will receive two letters and two postcards letting you know you will need some new or additional equipment. It's called a digital transport adapter or D-T-A. It connects to any TV set and uses a comcast provided remote control. You can get up to three D-T-A's free of charge.

Comcast spokesperson Francis Smith said, "Customers who currently have a digital converter or more than one digital converter in their household, those TV's are fine, but we want people to think about the TV set in the guest room or in a work shop or in the kitchen that they don't watch that often, but the TV is only hooked up from the cord from the wall to the back of the TV set, they also will need equipment."

Smith says you will get more channels, better picture quality and eventually faster internet speeds.

There are several ways to pick up the new equipment: by phone, online or you can go to a trailer in front of the main Comcast office on I-55 north.
