Neglected horses mean more charges for jailed man

Posted: Updated:

THIBODAUX, La. (AP) - A Golden Meadow man jailed on a domestic abuse charge now faces counts of animal cruelty involving two neglected horses.

Police told The Daily Comet that 47-year-old Oris Lee Sr. has been booked with three counts of animal cruelty. He had been jailed June 3 on a domestic abuse-battery charge and soon afterward police began receiving complaints from neighbors that he had left two horses tied to a tree with no arrangements for their care.

Jeff Dorson, executive director of the Humane Society of Louisiana, said his organization worked with the Sheriff's Office for the past two weeks trying to gain custody of the horses. Dorson said the horses had no water, medicine or grooming until Lee's neighbors got involved.
